Developers Jesse Hammes and Tom Swanwick are ready to close on another project that will convert the former Buffalo (Iowa) High School into a four-condo complex.
The Buffalo Independent School District built a one-story elementary school in 1900. In 1928, a second story was added for high school classes. The high school later moved out, but the building continued to be used as a school until 1958, when it was closed and sold to the city, which used it as a community center for many years.
The city closed the building in 2002. It was vacant until Tom and Maria Caudle of Buffalo bought it for $49,500. They converted it into a home.
Hammes said the deal is set to close May 30. After that, he expects renovations to begin immediately.
