The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that individuals receive flu shots in October or November. These groups should be vaccinated annually:

-- Children ages 6 months to 5 years

-- Pregnant women

-- People 50 years of age and older

-- People of any age with chronic medical conditions

-- People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities

-- Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu

-- Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (who are too young to be vaccinated)

-- Healthcare workers


Flu and pneumonia shots will be offered at these times and locations this week:

Trinity VNHA

Trinity Visiting Nurse and Homecare Association will provide flu and pneumonia shots from 8 a.m. to

5 p.m. Monday through Friday at their office, 106 19th Ave., Suite 101, Moline, through Nov. 21. The cost is $30 for flu shots and $40 for pneumonia shots (cash or check). There is no charge for those with Medicare Part B. FluMist also is available for $40. Ages 9 and older are welcome. Genesis VNA and Hospice

Genesis VNA and Hospice will provide flu shots for $37 and pneumonia shots for $40 (cash or check). There is no cost for those with Medicare Part B coverage. For more information, call (563) 421-5500.

Rock Island County Health Department

The Rock Island County Health Department will offer flu shots for $25 and pneumonia shots for $40 (no credits cards). There is no charge for those with Medicare Part B. Children under age 9 will be given shots only at the Health Department office. Parents should call (309) 794-7080 for an appointment. Since the Rock Island County Health Department is not in Secure Horizon’s HMO Network, flu shots will be given to Secure Horizon clients but not reimbursed. The department advises the public to check with their HMO provider to see if the cost will be reimbursed.

Walgreens drug stores

Walgreens drug stores will provide flu shots for $24.99 and pneumonia shots for $39.99 (cash, check or credit card). Medicare Part B will be billed for eligible patients. For more information, call (563) 386-2909.

Nov. 14: Noon-6 p.m., 2506 Lincolnway, Sterling, Ill.


Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee pharmacies will offer flu shots for persons 18 years of age and older at selected locations, while supplies last. The cost is $30 or free for those with Medicare Part B.

9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Phone: (563) 243-6063


Main at Locust Pharmacy

Main at Locust Pharmacy Clinic and Medical Supplies, 129 W. Locust St., Davenport, will offer flu shots from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to

5 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $34. There is no charge for those with Medicare Part B, Medicaid or other eligible insurance. For more information, call (563) 324-1641.


MDA Association

The Muscular Dystrophy Association offers free flu shots to children and adults who have any one of 40 neuromuscular diseases covered by the association. Patients can call the MDA office at (563) 359-5181 to receive a voucher for a free immunization at one of Trinityís clinics. Doctors also can call the MDA office to receive reimbursement for their patients with neuromuscular diseases.
