Guy Davis to perform school, public dates

Blues guitarist, harmonica player, composer, writer, storyteller, singer, actor and educator Guy Davis is the fourth artist-in-residence to be a part of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society’s Blues in the Schools program April 7-11.

Public performances are at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Davenport Public Library-Fairmount; 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Mojo’s coffeehouse, inside the River Music Experience, 129 Main St., Davenport; and 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Quad-City ArtsCenter, 1712 2nd Ave., Rock Island.

Davis, 55, is the son of  world-renowned actors and activists Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.

Among Davis’ acting projects were his Broadway debut in 1991 in the Zora Neal Hurston and Langston Hughes collaboration “Mulebone” and as Robert Johnson in the play “Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil.”

Davis will return to the Quad-Cities on July 3 to perform at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival.
