MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Maquoketa Community High School is looking for a new principal after William Walters resigned this week.

Walters has been principal for four years.

“It’s been a great four years for me,” Walters said in his resignation letter. “I would like to thank the board of directors for their support of the many changes that have been made over the past few years. I have never had the privilege of working with a board as forward-thinking as this one.”

Walters has accepted a job with the Area Education Agency in the Mount Pleasant/Fairfield area. He will be the area coordinator for special education for several high schools.

Superintendent Kim Huckstadt said he has already received some applications for the job. The deadline for accepting applications is May 23, and he hopes to have some candidates for the board to interview by the first week in June.
