Bandits scoreboard
Score
Kane County 11, Quad-Cities 1
On deck
Kane County at Quad-Cities, 7 p.m. today Modern Woodmen Park. Probable pitchers: Kane County, Jamie Richmond (2-2, 4.45 ERA); Quad-Cities, Brian Broderick (0-2, 5.08). Postgame fireworks
Early exit
River Bandits pitching coach Ace Adams made an early exit Thursday.
Adams was ejected by home plate umpire Philip Henry in the top of the seventh inning for disputing Henry’s judgment of where the strike zone was located.
Henry, who was separated from Adams by manager Steve Dillard, received a previous earful of advice from Adams during an earlier visit to the mound.
After the ejection, Adams dug into his jacket, pulled out his glasses and offered them to Henry before exiting.
The umpire, who had a run-in with former Quad-Cities manager Keith Mitchell in Beloit last season, declined the offer.
Almost silenced
Mike Folli’s eighth-inning single allowed Quad-Cities to avoid being shut out for the second time in four games.
Grabbing a lead
When Kane County gets an early lead, it wins.
A two-run first inning allowed the Cougars to improve to 15-0 on the season when they score first.
Seeds are sewn
The corn crop is in at Modern Woodmen Park and is being closely watched.
As a small plot of corn was planted Thursday afternoon just behind the River Bandits bullpen, a duck was nervously perched atop a nest located behind the seats reserved for Quad-Cities relievers.
Jersey auction tonight
The River Bandits will turn back the clock for a cause tonight.
Quad-Cities will wear throwback jerseys that are replicas of the ones worn by the original River Bandits teams in the early 1990s. The jerseys will be auctioned to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of ALS Awareness Month.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a disorder that destroys nerve cells that control voluntary muscles. MDA funds research into ALS treatments and cures in addition to providing services for people affected by the disease.
