Davenport police are investigating the theft of about $4,700 in sports memorabilia from Modern Woodmen Park, including Mark McGwire and Ryne Sandberg jerseys.

Police were dispatched to the stadium at 10:15 a.m. Saturday where officers met with team vice president Kirk Goodman.

Goodman told police he arrived at work about 8 a.m. and went to the stadium’s suite area above the ball park. He noticed five signed baseball jerseys were taken from the glass cases hanging on the wall. The glass in the five cases was shattered.

The jerseys taken were: a McGwire Oakland Athletics jersey valued at $500; a McGwire St. Louis Cardinals jersey valued at $500; a Nolan Ryan Houston Astros jersey valued at $1,200; a Sandberg Chicago Cubs jersey valued at $1,000; and a Bob Gibson St. Louis Cardinals jersey valued at $1,500.

The cases in which the jerseys were displayed are valued at $100 each.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Davenport Police Department at (563) 326-7979.
