Despite the price of regular unleaded gasoline being more than $1.30 per gallon cheaper than last year, AAA is projecting a 1.9 percent decrease in July 4 holiday travel this year.
This year, 37.1 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home. Last year, an estimated 37.8 million Americans traveled during the holiday weekend. Randy Williams, president of AAA Minnesota-Iowa, said the reason for the decrease is the ongoing uncertainty about the economy, job security and personal incomes.
