Four Quad-City area women have been selected as 2013 Athena Awards honorees. The Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce and Women’s Connection will recognize them at an awards luncheon in April. During that event, one Athena recipient will be named from the field of four.

Honorees were selected based on criteria that includes leadership, serving as a role model to other women in their profession and community, and contributing time and energy to community betterment.

The 2013 honorees are:

-- Joy Boruff, executive director, the Moline Foundation. Boruff is the first staff person and executive director of the Moline Foundation and the Moline Public Schools Foundation, and the first communications director for Moline-Coal Valley Public Schools. She also co-founded the Women’s Encouragement Board and the regional chapter for the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

-- Sarah D. Lande, former executive director, Iowa Sister States. The Muscatine woman has been active in advancing the state’s world citizenship around the globe. Iowa has eight Sister States, four of which were established under Lande’s leadership.

-- Angela Moody, chief executive officer, Arrowhead Ranch. Since 2004, she has led a facility that provides shelter and direction to young women and men who have endured various challenges.

-- Heidi Parkhurst, first vice president and resident director, Merrill Lynch. As a member of the Merrill Lynch finance team since 2004, she oversees 30 advisers and support staff throughout Iowa and Illinois. She is a member of the National Council for Diversity and Council for Recruitment.
