The Quad-Cities Sports Commission has been selected as a 2013 Readers’ Choice Award winner by SportsEvents Media Group, a publication of sport event planners.

The commission, which operates under the umbrella of the Quad-Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau, was one of 104 cities in North America included in the January edition of SportsEvents magazine.

“We are always striving to deliver a memorable experience for the planners and participants, both in the planning and execution stages,” said Lynn Hunt, vice president-sales for the tourism bureau. “It is wonderful that Sports Events readers found our Quad-Cities Sports Commission to be a professional group to work with when bringing sports tournaments and events to our area.”

Sports event professionals were asked to name the sports commission, convention and visitors bureau, or sporting event venues that they believe display exemplary creativity and professionalism to the sporting groups they host. Nominations were received from readers throughout the year, and the top picks were selected through online voting.

SportsEvent editor Kristen McIntosh said due to social media and online voting “we received an overwhelming response from readers this year.”

The awards honor destinations, sports venues and the marketing organizations that represent them.

“These award winners have proven they are willing to go above and beyond the normal service levels expected by providing both the physical attributes and commitment to hospitality and service that today’s discriminating sports event planners demand,” she added.

The Quad-Cities Sports Commission is a private, not-for-profit organization established to assist in the development of sporting activities and programs for youth and amateur sports to create a positive economic impact in the community. It is managed by a volunteer board of directors, which includes representatives from education as well as the business, tourism, and sports industries.
