Deer hide donations

Volunteers Jim Koens, left, and Jerry King stack deer hides after trimming and salting them Tuesday at the Davenport Elks Lodge 298 on Central Park Avenue. On Wednesday, Koens transported the donated hides to a storage site in Cedar Rapids. In early 2018, the hides will be shipped to a tannery in Tennessee, where they will be processed into leather. The products then will be distributed to veterans at medical facilities throughout the U.S.
