1. Ya Maka My Weekend

If you like reggae music, Caribbean cuisine and tropical drinks, then downtown Rock Island is the place to be on Saturday. The 26th annual Ya Maka My Weekend festival starts at 4 p.m. Saturday along 2nd Avenue in Rock Island. Festivities include arts vendors, food and drinks and live music from bands such as Rude Punch, Yard Squad and 40oz To Freedom. Tickets, $9. For more info, visit downtownrockisland.org.

2.  Artists' market 

Here's another reason to be in Rock Island this weekend. The monthly Rock Island Artists' Market is back with a Tropical Luau theme, featuring live ukulele music, a costume contest, food vendors and a slew of area art for perusing or for purchase. The market is set for noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Skeleton Key Art and Antiques, 520 18th St., Rock Island

3. Tug Fest 

This weekend, the river rivalry returns. Teams from Port Byron and LeClaire will compete in a tug-of-war, stretching a 680-pound rope across the Mississippi River. In addition to the Tug, set for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, both towns will host festivities, including parades, live music, carnival rides and fireworks, from Thursday through Saturday. 

4. All kinds of bacon 

Calling all bacon lovers. Make the trip to Monmouth, Illinois, this weekend and you could be feasting on bacon bourbon brownies, bacon candy, bacon eggrolls and bacon-wrapped, well, everything. BaconFest, which features 13 food vendors, beer, a bacon-eating contest, live music from the Corn Wolves and Soul Storm and kids activities, is happening from 5-9 p.m. Saturday in Monmouth's City Square. Admission is free. 

5. 'Brighton Beach Memoirs'

Here's your last call to check out "Brighton Beach Memoirs," presented by the new theater group, Mississippi Bend Players. The group wraps up its inaugural season this weekend, with performances of "Brighton Beach Memoirs" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Augustana College's Brunner Theatre Center, 3750 7th Ave., Rock Island. 6. Birdtalker at the Raccoon Motel 

Birdtalker, a five-piece folk band out of Nashville, Tennesee, is on its first full tour around the country. And the band, fronted by husband-and-wife duo Zack and Dani Green, is performing here. Birdtalker and opening act The Rocketboys are slated to play at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel, 304 E. 3rd St., Davenport. Tickets, $12, are available at raccoonmotel.com.
