1. From the 'The Voice'
You might recognize Emily Keener from being a contestant on season 10 of NBC's "The Voice." The singer-songwriter made it to the show's top 12 as a member of Team Pharrell. 2. An NPR favorite
In 2016, the violinist and singer-songwriter Gaelynn Lea beat out more than 6,000 artists to win NPR's Tiny Desk Contest. Lea, a native of Duluth, Minnesota, returns to the Daytrotter stage this weekend. See her, with openers Ben De La Cour and Johnnie Cluney, Saturday at Daytrotter, 324 Brady St., Davenport. 3. Carnival rides and corn dogs
From demolition derby races to carnival rides to talent shows, there's a slew of sights to check out at the 148th annual Rock Island County Fair, happening now through Saturday at 4200 Archer Drive, East Moline. Admission is $2 for ages 13 and up, $1 for ages 6-12 and is free for ages 5 and under. After 8:30 p.m. each day, admission goes up to $5. For the full event schedule, visit rockislandfair.org.
4. Shakespeare's show
The Genesius Guild opens its latest show this weekend: "The Life of Henry the Fifth," a history play written by William Shakespeare. Free performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as well as July 29-30 at Lincoln Park, at the intersection of 38th Street and 11th Avenue in Rock Island. Following "The Life of Henry the Fifth," the Guild's 61st season of free summer theater will wrap up with Aristophanes' "The Clouds" on Aug. 4-6.
5. Spooky date night
The newly formed Mississippi Bend Players presents its second show ever this weekend, called "Wait Until Dark," bringing to stage the 1960s thriller movie starring Audrey Hepburn. You can see "Wait Until Dark," at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Augustana College's Brunner Theatre Center, 3750 7th Ave., Rock Island. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for students and are available at the Augustana Ticket Office, by phone at 309-794-7306 or online at augustana.edu/tickets. Plus, if you bring a date to the show on Friday, you'll each get a discount on tickets, thanks to the group's theme night, coined “Wait! It’s Date Night!"
6. For RME members
If you're a River Music Experience member, here's a free show just for you. The RME is holding a member appreciation concert, with music from folk acts The Western Den and Honeysuckle, at 8 p.m. Friday at the Redstone Room, 129 N. Main St., Davenport.
