1. Ready to run?
This weekend is all about the Quad-City Times Bix 7. The 7-mile race and the 2-mile Swiss Valley Quick Bix are set to bring thousands of runners, walkers and spectators to downtown Davenport on Saturday. The runs begin at 8 a.m. and this year, the Bix 7 serves as the USA Track and Field National 7 Mile Championships. You can still register at qctimes.com/bix. Whether you're going for a personal record or cheering someone on, the Bix 7 course is the place to be on Saturday morning.
2. All you can eat ribs
Ribfest returns Friday and Saturday, inviting Quad-Citians to feast on barbecue ribs and pulled pork from six competing vendors. Ribfest, which is this year part of Street Fest, will be set up on 2nd Street between Harrison and Ripley streets. Along with sampling barbecue, fest-goers can vote on their favorite vendor. Ribfest is slated for 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday.
3. Liza Anne returns to Raccoon Motel
Kick off Bix 7 weekend with a show at the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel, 304 E. 3rd St., Davenport. Liza Anne returns to the stage with openers Chris Coleslaw and The Curls. Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday and music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets, $15 in advance, are available at raccoonmotel.com.
4. Punk at Daytrotter
Along with a bundle of live music happening outside in downtown Davenport on Saturday, here's an indoor show to check out. The Coathangers, an all-female punk trio from Atlanta, Georgia, will take the Daytrotter stage, 324 Brady St., Davenport, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Residuels and Archeress will open up the show. 5. 'Wait Until Dark'
Mississippi Bend Players, the theater troupe consisting of area students and professional actors, continues its inaugural season this weekend. The final set of performances of "Wait Until Dark," based on the 1960s thriller movie of the same name, are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Augustana College's Brunner Theatre Center, 3750 7th Ave. Rock Island. 6. Q-C Metalfest
Looking to see 13 of the region's best metal bands? The one-day Q-C Metalfest features bands from Minnesota, Iowa City, Dayton, Ohio, and the Quad-Cities. Music starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bierstube, 415 15th St., Moline. The final band is scheduled to perform at 10:20 p.m. Cover is $5.
