1. New Year's with Soul Storm 

Usher in 2018 with music from Soul Storm, a Quad-City based pop, rhythm and blues and rock band. The group will perform at 9 p.m. Sunday, New Year's Eve, at the 11th Street Precinct Bar & Grill in the East Village of Davenport. 

2. Tom Petty tribute 

Want to hear tunes such as "Free Fallin'" and "I Won't Back Down" on New Year's Eve? You're in luck. You can celebrate the life and music of Tom Petty, the rock 'n' roll legend who died in October, this weekend. Quad-City area musicians Jason Carl, Chris Noth, Rick Stoneking, Jamie Hopkins, Sarena Whitmer, Steve Lowder and Ryan Summer will take on a tribute to Petty. Show starts at 9 p.m. Sunday at the Redstone Room, 129 N. Main St., Davenport. Tickets, $15, are available at rivermusicexperience.org.

3. Elf' at Circa '21 

This weekend is your last chance to see “Elf the Musical,” which finishes its run at Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse, 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island. Performances of the on-stage show based on the movie starring Will Ferrell are scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 5:45 p.m. Sunday and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday through Dec. 30. Tickets cost $51.98 for the evening dinner-and-show productions and $45.15 for the plated-lunch matinees. There are reduced price options for students and seniors. 4. Irma René Koen exhibit at the Figge

The "Irma René Koen: An Artist Rediscovered" exhibit is ending its run this weekend at the Figge Art Museum. Check out the exhibit — featuring 40 paintings by the Rock Island native and distinguished artist of the 1900s — through Sunday at the museum, 225 W. 2nd St., Davenport. Koen’s legacy was largely forgotten until art historian Cynthia Wiedemann Empen uncovered the Quad-City figure.  5. Open mic night 

Roaring Rhetoric, an area group of writers and spoken-word performers, is holding its final open mic night of the year this week. Along with open mic performances, the event will double as a book release party for Roaring Rhetoric's co-founder Aubrey Barnes, whose book "Unfin-" will be available for purchase. The event is from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Connect Coffee House in NorthPark Mall, 320 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport.

6. Winter lights, winter nights 

Here's another last-chance event. The Quad-City Botanical Center's Winter Nights, Winter Lights will be on display through Saturday. See the outdoor gardens, which are decorated with thousands of glowing lights. After a stroll through the gardens, you can go inside the center to warm up with a hot chocolate bar. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for kids ages 3-7 and free for ages under 2. The displays are open to the public from 4:30 to 8 p.m.  Dec. 26-30 at 2525 4th Ave., Rock Island.
