Debbra Accardi doesn’t mind making the 50-mile drive from Kewanee, Ill., to Moline on weekend nights. Accardi knows she’ll find a warm welcome at Club Boulevard and plenty of opportunities for dancing and socializing upon arrival.
Inside the club, small tables and futons offer comfortable seating around the dance floor. People hang out by the well-stocked bar, chatting while others are out on the floor moving with the music.
“It’s like you come here and you’re walking into family. They just make you feel at home. I love to dance. I love music,” Accardi said. “I just moved back here from California, so now I’m trying to meet people and get the social thing going.”
Club Boulevard offers a place where single people, couples and groups of friends can enjoy an evening out in an upscale atmosphere. Kimberly Underwood, the operations manager, and Steve Sapato, the owner, are there to welcome guests and make sure the evening flows as smoothly as a chocolate-covered raspberry or coffee martini.
“Years ago, there were lots of places to go dancing. People want a nice place to go dance,” Underwood said.
The club officially opened Jan. 1. People can call ahead for VIP seating and ask to reserve a table or futon and have a bottle of their favorite beverage brought to the table. The music features top-40 hits, rock mash-ups and hip-hop, and a DJ is there to play songs upon request.
Until January, the facility was known as the Boulevard Reception and Party Hall, and space is available in the Martini Room for special functions such as birthday parties and corporate events. The exposed brick wall and engraved tin roof in that room are original to the building.
“We thought the Quad-Cities needed a good nightclub again, particularly the Illinois Quad-Cities,” Sapato says.
Club Boulevard is patterned after upscale establishments often seen in Chicago. Guests can dance the whole night away without getting hassled, and people can hear themselves talk, he said.
Knowing that suits Accardi and her friends. They can even leave their personal items at their table while they’re out on the floor dancing and know that everything will be there when they need to take a breather.
“It’s nice to be able to dress up. I’ve got a couple of new dresses to wear,” Lisa Richards of Davenport said.
New to the singles scene, Richards prefers getting out and dancing on weekend nights instead of sitting at home and watching TV. “It makes me feel young at heart. It socializes you and you get your exercise,” she added.
“The club is very classy and you feel comfortable,” Merri Farrell of East Moline said. “It’s a place where you can meet people your own age. The music is great. They‘re playing older stuff, they‘re playing newer stuff,” she said, adding that she hopes more people “discover” Club Boulevard.
“I like that the club is in a residential area. There’s plenty of parking and you don’t have to be worried about walking alone,” Accardi said.
