There’s a second Bob in radio’s “Bob & Tom Show.” Bob Zany has been a regular on the syndicated radio show (heard daily in the Quad-Cities on KCQQ-FM 106.5) for a decade with his “Zany Report.”

Zany is among the performers featured on the “Bob & Tom Comedy All-Stars Tour,” which is coming to the Capitol Theatre in Davenport on Friday night.

“Bob and Tom” helped create these comedians,” Zany said.

In a telephone interview from his California home, Zany — also a regular on Jerry Lewis’ Labor Day Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a talking head on “Smoking Gun Presents” on the TruTV cable channel and a co-star of the upcoming movie “The Informant” with Matt Damon — talks about the show:

Q: How many of these “Bob & Tom” tours do you do in a year?

A: I think I’m on 10 or 12 weekends this year.

Q: What do you get out of these that you wouldn’t get out of a solo date or a club date?

A: I get a chance to work with people I don’t work with much of the time because they’re all headliners and the fact you get to play to a larger amount of fans and people who know who you are, which is always helpful. I surprise a lot of people with my stand-up.

Q: You have a lot of audience interaction. How much of your act do you know you’ll do before you walk on stage?

A: There’s a beginning and an end. In the middle, I let the audience take me. They’ll give me a line that I know will work at that moment. I try to listen to what they say so I can build off it.

Q: Is there more competition or camaraderie among comics?

A: We talk to each other, and a lot of people will call the police on each other. When we’re out there, we’re alone, so we try to do the best we can. There have been a couple of comedians who are off the tour, but everyone else gets it.

Q: What have these tours done for you?

A: More people get to see you. I think there’s a stigma to a comedy club versus a theater or an auditorium.
