The happy hour pizza is the perfect after-work snack for Joe Kopacz, who has been coming to Old Chicago with friends for about two years.

For $2.99, he can get a three-topping, 8-inch pizza as part of Old Chicago's happy hour menu, which runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. every day.

"Sometimes if it's been a hard day at work, I like to have it be a lot greasier, so it's pepperoni, sausage and andouille. The andouille is really good, not a lot of places have it," Kopacz said. "Tonight, I have thin crust, tomato, basil, garlic and Miller Lite."

As a member of Old Chicago's Beer Tour, which rewards customers for trying a variety of beers, Kopacz also takes advantage of the $1 off pints and well drinks offer during happy hour. He's a fan of home brews, but he couldn't pick a favorite beer to go with the pizza.

He's eaten pizza for $2.99 at other places, but he said the quality wasn't anywhere near as good as Old Chicago.

"It is just the right amount to have with a series of beers." he said. "It's a great thing to be able to get off work and come here and eat and drink so frugally and still enjoy myself."

Other $2.99 happy hour menu items are Mexican and Italian nachos, mozzarella sticks, cheese fries and wings.

Dorota Hirsch, an Old Chicago supervisor, thinks the pizza is the best value on the happy hour menu, but added that the cheese fries are popular as well.

"Most people usually get a couple of things because for three bucks you can splurge a little," Hirsch said. "For the most part, it's pretty hard to find a good meal for less than $10 anymore."
