Having a meal at Doggie Styles in Milan, Ill., has one big advantage for Don Smith. He can bring his dog, Duke, along.

The eatery features an indoor seating area as well as a walk-up counter with outdoor seating. So when Smith is out and about with his German shepherd, he and Duke stop by for their favorite dish: biscuits and gravy.

“He does like biscuits and gravy, and their bacon, too,” Smith said of Duke. “He likes to be spoon-fed, too.”

Smith usually orders the all-you-can-eat breakfast for $5.

“I appreciate that. I don’t need all you can eat, but I appreciate it,” he added.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast and lunch, each priced at $5, are very popular with customers, said Magan Jones, the manager of Doggie Styles.

“Especially now, with the bad times everybody’s going through, we’re able to give them a good meal, and I think they like that,” Jones added.

Most customers begin with the all-you-can-eat specials and then branch out to other items on the menu, most of which are also less than $5. Some of the other popular menu items include hot dogs for $1.75, the kraut dog for $2.25 and the chili cheese dog for $2.75.

Doggie Styles is known most for its Homewrecker, a foot-long hot dog made with half a pound of beef  and topped with ketchup, mustard, relish, onions and whatever else customers can think of to go with it. It’s the most expensive item on the menu at $4.75, or $7.95 with fries and a drink.

“Everybody of course at least has to try the Homewrecker, and if they don’t try it, they at least have to see it,” Jones said. “Most of them, you bring it out and their eyes are just huge. But most of them do finish it. I think they come in ready for it.”

Besides hot dogs served in just about every fashion, Doggie Styles also sells both soft-serve and hard-pack ice cream, a combination that Jones said customers enjoy.

As the weather warms up, the Doggie Styles management plans to extend its evening hours to satisfy summer cravings for the ice cream.
