With state tickets already punched Friday, what was left for the taking Saturday were titles, and Alleman’s girls tennis team came through big, winning its fourth straight sectional crown.

The reigning Western Big Six champs, who tied for third in the state a year ago, got Galesburg Class A sectional championships from Lily Schoeck in singles and its top doubles team of Lauren Hird and Noely Baumann.

“Very exciting day,” said Pioneer coach Leslie Hird. “It certainly was the goal. We wanted to repeat the sectional title, and definitely thought we had it in us.”

Geneseo’s doubles team of Madi Miller and Jane Thomas, which fell to Hird-Baumann in the championship, also advanced, as did Moline’s doubles team in Class 2A of Lauren Myers and Monika Birksi, which took third at the Normal Community sectional.
