Alleman’s doubles team of Lauren Hird and Noely Baumann fell in the quarterfinals Friday at the IHSA state Class 1A tournament.
Earlier in the day Pioneer Lily Schoeck won her first match and lost her second and was eliminated in singles competition.
The only other Quad-City area competitors still alive, Geneseo’s doubles team of Madi Miller and Jane Thomas, also was eliminated Friday.
The Hird-Baumann duo could finish as high as fifth by winning three matches today. They are already in the top 12, where they finished a year ago.
The pair lost in the quarterfinals 4-6, 5-7 to Chatham Glenwood’s Anna Lytchakov and Medha Venigalla. Alleman was in tie for 16th place after Friday’s results with nine points.
“It was an amazing experience in the quarterfinal match,” said Alleman coach Leslie Hird. “Officials in chairs calling out each score and who is serving, etc. Just like the pros.”
