DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 George E. Finch, 94, of Davenport, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at his residence at Senior Star, Davenport. Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. today at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Mr. Finch was born in 1923 in Emington, Illinois, to George W. and Margaret T. Finch. He married Dorothy Maury on Nov. 23, 1946, in Dubuque. She preceded him in death March 5, 2005. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1943 and fought with the 29th Infantry division from D-Day to Saint Lo, during World War II. After returning from the war, he received his private pilot\u2019s license. One of the highlights of his life was having the opportunity to go on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifices. He was a Davenport firefighter for 22 years, retiring in 1978 with the rank of lieutenant. In addition, he also worked as a carpenter/contractor. Among his memberships were St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport American Legion Post 26, Firefighters Local 17 (past president), and the local MDA Chapter (past president).

Survivors include his daughters, Lynn (Dale) Lane of Phoenix, Arizona, Laurie (Kevin) Nurre of Cedar Rapids, and Christine (Brian) Wiedenhoeft of Davenport; sons, Patrick (Colleen) Finch of Davenport and Daniel (Julie) Finch of Davenport; 10 grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle, Alissa, Shawn, Brian, Jennifer, Brooke, KC, Ellie and Matthew; 15 great-grandchildren, Nikki, Tanner, Kylie, Christian, Kenedee, Brennan, Brice, Aiden, Danielle, Noah, Alex, Brandon, Livia, Levi and Bailee.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Johnson, Martha Negus and Frances Rieck; great-grandchild Aidan Curtis; and special friend Adel Stoffel.

CAMANCHE, Iowa \u2014\u00a0Mary E. Pirch, 70, of Camanche, passed away peacefully with loved ones in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017. Mary was born Oct. 6, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Milo and Kathyrn (Knutson) Savel. She attended Upper Iowa University and received her B.A. degree in education from the University of Iowa in 1968. She was married in 1968 and to this union she was blessed with two children, a son, Andrew James and a daughter, Stacey Ann. On Sept. 21, 1985, she was joined in marriage to Ray Pirch at her mother\u2019s home in Cedar Rapids.

Mary taught school in Illinois and Michigan while continuing her education in behavioral disorders and learning disabilities. While a stay-at-home mom, she was a substitute teacher in the Clinton and Camanche school districts. She later taught in Sterling, Illinois, for the severe and profound, and then at Lincoln High School in Clinton. She was a member of Church of the Visitation and Illowa Orchid Club. She was actively involved in the Clinton Showboat Theater as an actress and usher.

Mary is survived by her husband, Ray; two children, Andrew (Elizabeth) Cornwell, stationed in Tokyo, Japan, and a daughter, Stacey (Michael) McIntosh, Silvis; a step-son, Scott Pirch, Coeur D\u2019Alene, Idaho; five grandchildren, Nicole, Cassandra, Cordelia, Jacob and Kassidi; a brother, William (Janice) Savel, Cedar Rapids; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-son, Shawn, and a brother, Robert.

Memorials may be made to the Illowa Orchid Society, pancreatic cancer research or the Clinton Humane Society.

Cliff was born in 1925 in Birmingham, Iowa, to George and Grace Nelson. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist's mate. On Oct. 6, 1951, Cliff was united in marriage to Donna Gerdts at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Cliff worked as an electrical technical supervisor\u00a0at Alcoa for 33 years, retiring in 1983. His memberships included New Hope Presbyterian Church, where he was an ordained deacon, a ruling elder and a charter member. He also participated in Davenport Elks Club, Eldridge American Legion Post 639 and the Alcoa retirees club. Cliff enjoyed reading, especially about the Civil War, and aviation history. He loved yardwork, flower gardening and caring for the wild birds in\u00a0his backyard.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughters, Holly Tappendorf and Shelley Simon of Eldridge, and Tracey Bailey of Davenport; sons, John and Cheryl Nelson of New Mexico, and Mark and Teresa Nelson of Michigan; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace, and a brother, Edward.

DAVENPORT \u2014\u00a0Memorial services celebrating the life of John R. Turnbaugh, 69, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at Christian Center Church, 2103 W. 3rd St., Davenport. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Mr. Turnbaugh passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

John Robert Turnbaugh was born Sept. 18, 1947, in Davenport, the son of Edward J. and Florence (Samuels) Turnbaugh. After his parents passed, he went to live with Riva Ackerman and her daughter, Jody, and had been residing with them for the past 25years.

John loved to walk, sing, write poems, and volunteer at the Sugar Shack and the 180 Zone. He was a friend to everyone and had a gift for remembering names and dates.

Survivors include his \u201cmom\u201d and caregiver, Riva; \u201csister,\u201d Jody; and \u201cbrother,\u201d Mark, all of Davenport.

MARTINEZ, Calif. \u2014\u00a0Pamela K. Frisby, 73, of Martinez, formerly of Bettendorf, died Jan. 29, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.

A celebration of Pamela\u2019s life will be at a later date, this spring. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born Nov. 24, 1943, in Davenport, Pamela was the daughter of Charles F. and Lola Mae (Lewis) Johnston.

Pamela was a graduate of Bettendorf High School. She lived in California for a major part of her life, with her beloved partner of 40 years, Richard Michael Kiely.

Those left to honor her memory include her mother, Lola Johnston; step-daughters, Christina (John) Rossum, KJB Kiely and Colleen (Butch) Castro; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends. Pam was greatly loved and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; partner, Richard Kiely; sister, Susan Murphy;, and step-son, Kevin Kiely.

WILTON, Iowa \u2014\u00a0Roger R. Schroeder, 83, of Wilton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a battle with cancer. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20 at the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors by Rixe Lausen Post 104.

Roger was born May 10, 1933, in Eldridge, to Rudolf O. and Anna Frieda (Claussen) Schroeder. He married JoAnn Meinhardt on\u00a0May 11, 1957. She preceded him in death in 1991. He married Barbara Cline on\u00a0Sept. 21, 1996.

Roger proudly served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a farmer all his life. He was a seed corn dealer for more than 30 years.

He was past president of the Stockton Coop and past board member of River Valley Coop. He was a member of the Rixe Lausen Legion Post 104 in Bennett.

Roger loved bowling, playing cards, dancing, hunting, going to the casino and old country music. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the kids\u2019 sports games. Roger was a special person who was loved by all who knew him. His step-children named him \u201cMr. Wonderful\u201d when they first met him, and they all knew him by that name.

Survivors include his loving wife of 20 years, Barbara; daughter, Sharon (Rodney) Schneider, Lowden, Iowa; sons, Wayne Schroeder and Ronald (Elizabeth) Schroeder, Wilton; step-children, Tammy (Steve) Fahrenkrog, Eldridge, Rodney Cline, Eldridge, Derrick (Shanda) Cline, Calamus, Iowa; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn; parents; sisters, Pauline Rathjen and Darlene Kroeger; brother, William Schroeder; and sister-in-law, Nancy Claussen.

Christopher enjoyed hunting and fishing. He really loved spending time with his family and friends.

Christopher is survived by his wife, Darlene; one son, Brian (Shannon) Bundy; one daughter, Brenda (Chris) Jennings; his mother; one brother, John Lister Jr.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four nieces; three nephews; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Christopher was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Gene Lister; and two sisters, Jeanice Lister and Kathy Likens.

Larry was born July 21, 1943, in Rock Island, son of Lawrence K. and Florence A. Senger. He married Dolores J. Thornton on Aug. 3, 1963, at Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island. She preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2015. Larry was best known as the owner of 20th Street Market, Rock Island. For the past 31 years and up until his death, Larry was employed by Illowa Investment Corporation, Blue Grass. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island and the Knights of Columbus, Allouez Council No. 658, Rock Island.

He was proud of his Catholic upbringing. He loved fishing, golfing and traveling with his wife and friends. He enjoyed watching his birds, doing puzzles, going to casinos, listening to country music and watching football, westerns and NASCAR on TV. Larry coached Rock Island girls\u2019 softball for many years and coached his own girls through many successful seasons. His friends would describe him as a man with a sense of humor and a smile on his face.

Surviving are his daughters (and spouses), LuAnn Senger, Muscatine, Linda (Russ) Keizer, Centennial, Colorado, and Lisa (Bruce) Downing, Moline; grandchildren, Katherine (Matthew) Lents, Hanover Park, Illinois, Joey Vander Vennet, Rock Island and Zachary Senger, Moline; great-grandson, Noah Vander Vennet; siblings, Beverly (Lester) Fisher, Casa Grande, Arizona, and Kenneth (Paula) Senger, Fort Myers, Florida; nieces, Denise Mc Intosh, McDonough, Georgia, Heidi Standfield, Geneseo, Illinois; nephew, Jason Senger, St. Charles, Illinois.

Kathleen Ann was born Aug. 3, 1947, in Davenport, the second of 10 children born to Kenneth and Mary (Murphy) Caldwell. She graduated in 1965 from Davenport Central High and attended Scott Community College, Bettendorf. Kate worked at the law office of Bittner, Lambert & Werner as a legal secretary before her retirement in 2008. Kate married William \u201cBill\u201d Gordon on June 6, 1992.

Kate loved her family, children and grandchildren. Kate always had pets in her life and enjoyed their company and companionship. Kate was an avid gardener who earned her Master Gardener certification from Iowa State University. Her hosta collection was magnificent and her gardens beautiful. She enjoyed travel and traveled extensively both domestically and abroad. Kate loved music, played the piano and instilled that love of music in her children. Kate enjoyed boating and took extended trips on the Mississippi River with her husband Bill and friends. Kate is survived by her husband, Bill Gordon; children, Rachel Riley and Rachel\u2019s children, Stephen, Elizabeth and Lucas Elias, Patrick Riley, Melissa (Riley) Mgana and Melissa\u2019s husband Emmanuel Mgana and their children, Kael, Sophia, Grace and Ella Mgana; her ex-husband George Riley; siblings, Denise Caldwell, Kenneth Caldwell, Paul (Karen) Caldwell, Sue (George) Sedlak, Judith (Dean) Wilson, James Caldwell, Karen (Eric) Segal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Daniel and Steven Caldwell.

Marian was born Aug. 12, 1930, near Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of William Cullen Muirhead and Lillian Urutha Ericson Murihead. She was a graduate of Tipton High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to George William Thordsen on Aug. 20, 1950. Marian and George had two children, Karla and Michael. They had a good life raising their children, but she and George eventually went their separate ways and she married her soul mate, Robert (Bob) Taylor on May 23, 1974, which led to more than 40 years of happiness and fulfillment.

Throughout her life, Marian worked at the Tipton State Bank, ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services) and the West Liberty State Bank. Marian was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing the piano and organ and spending time with both her immediate and extended family.

She is survived by her children, Karla Thordsen-Hanrahan (Mike Hanrahan) of Wellman, Iowa, Michael (Heather) Thordsen of Lincoln, Arkansas, and bonus children Gene (Debbie) Taylor of Wilton, Iowa, Jeanette Taylor Suhorepetz of Wilton and Mike (Rhonda) Taylor of Tipton. Also surviving are nieces, Ann (Werling) Venditti and husband Rod, Avis (Muirhead) Jones, Kathy (Siemsen) Minde and Kevin (wife Pam) Siemsen; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob in 2014, sisters, June Werling, Lois Warmuth and Norma Siemsen.

Marian led a full life and will be greatly missed.

COAL VALLEY\u00a0\u2014 Anthony \u201cAJ\u201d Ciccone, 3, of Coal Valley, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, with a two-hour visitation prior to the service starting at 1:00.

Anthony James Lee Ciccone was born May 21, 2013, in Peoria, son of Todd and Kelly (Saunders) Ciccone.

AJ was a very happy boy who loved Mickey Mouse, the Minions, and P.J. Masks, and he was a whiz with cell phones.

In addition to his parents; survivors include grandparents, Bob and Sandy Ciccone of Machesney Park, Illinois, Lloyd and Colleen Jacklich of Oroville, California, and Kathy Hamor of Moline; aunts and uncles, Kenny and Diane Saunders, Kim and Dale Kincaid, Darlene and Darren Washington, Jenn and Joel Sprecher, Brian Ciccone, Lloyd Jacklich and Samantha Hamor; cousins, Jenna, Meikeila, Christian, Clint, Casie, Kaeden, Deven and Neiko.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Jim and Betty Wyman, and Frank Ciccone, his grandfather, James Saunders, his Nana, Rose Saunders, and aunts Wendy and Cindy.

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill.\u00a0\u2014 Elaine Willetts, 89, of Prophetstown, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at the Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Prophetstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rod Dye, pastor of Erie United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be the same day at the church, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Interment will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elaine was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Kewanee, Illinois, to George H. and Marie E. (Egert) Hepner. She was educated in the Kewanee grade schools and was a 1945 graduate of Atkinson (Illinois) High School. She married Robert J. Willetts on Oct. 19, 1947, in Kewanee. Elaine was employed at General Electric in Morrison, Illinois, and she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She also was active in the church\u2019s Ad Council. Elaine enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; one daughter, Dawn Willetts of Prophetstown; one son, Mark Willetts of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren, Christopher Maloof, Lyndsey Maloof, Jodi (Billy) Alligood, Aaron (Jennifer) Maloof; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Wendell (Gloria) Hepner, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Hepner of Prophetstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Jeanette Hepner, one brother, Delbert E. Hepner.

WILTON, Iowa\u00a0\u2014 Ronald Allan Gradert, 82, of Wilton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at the Wilton Retirement Community.

Ron was born in Cedar County, Iowa, on May 29, 1934, to Hilbert and Agnes (Dall) Gradert.

Ron graduated from Wilton High School in 1952. He worked at Alcoa for 15 years and later at Bendix. He retired from White Pigeon Insurance Agency in Wilton, where he was a claims adjuster.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilton, Wilton Masonic Lodge 167 AF & AM, Order of Eastern Star, Purity Chapter and the Wilton Historical Society. He was a retired Wilton volunteer firefighter, where he served as assistant chief and served 11 years on the Wilton City Council. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and baking banana bread for area businesses.

Ron married Kathleen Marie Reynolds on May 27, 1956, in Grandview, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 1981. He later married Diana M. Flater Maurer on Jan. 21, 1989 in Wilton.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the First Presbyterian Church, Wilton.

Interment will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton.

Ron is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Laurie (Tom) Maurer of Wilton; his sons, Darrel (Christine) Gradert of Blue Grass, Michael (Marilea) Gradert and Steve (Trisha) Gradert of Wilton; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his step-daughters, Deborah (Tony) Hurd and Julia (Mark) Peterson of Wilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his step-daughter Leah Maurer and grandson Nic Peterson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in his memory.

She was raised on a farm north of town and attended Michigan Township country school. She married Lloyd Jallo in 1945. They farmed in North Dakota until the late 1950s when they moved to the Quad-Cities where they raised their two sons. Donna was a homemaker when her children were young, but then worked at a dry cleaner, then Henry Engineering. She had a very strong work ethic and continued to work odd jobs, cleaning offices until into her 80s. Her greatest joys of life were being a devoted mother and adoring grandmother. BETTENDORF\u00a0\u2014 Donna A. Johnson, 91, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf. Donna (Antoinette) Berdahl was born Nov. 27, 1925, near Michigan, North Dakota, the daughter of Ole and Almeda (Fontaine) Berdahl. She was raised on a farm north of town and attended Michigan Township country school. She married Lloyd Jallo in 1945. They farmed in North Dakota until the late 1950s when they moved to the Quad-Cities where they raised their two sons. Donna was a homemaker when her children were young, but then worked at a dry cleaner, then Henry Engineering. She had a very strong work ethic and continued to work odd jobs, cleaning offices until into her 80s. Her greatest joys of life were being a devoted mother and adoring grandmother. She loved a good polka and listening to country music.

Left to honor her memory are a son, Terry Jallo (Frieda) of Texas; daughter-in-law, Becky Jallo-Knorrek (Steve Knorrek) Long Grove; grandchildren, Bryan, Gary, Matt and Jason Jallo, of Texas, and Ross and Hanna Jallo of Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Dennis Jallo, preceded her in death, as well as sisters, Dorothy Haugen, Daisy Laud, Mary Ann Laud and brother Clayton Berdahl.

Services will be in North Dakota at a later date.

She retired from Reynolds Manufacturing after 20 years as a secretary. She was a devoted mother to Michael C. (Sandra) Haas of Dacula, Georgia, and Cheryl L (Haas) Holden of Davenport; and grandmother to Brock E. (Jana) Motley of Davenport, Brandon (Veronica) Haas of Stafford, Virginia, Phoenix (Larry) Tyler of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Lindsay Haas of Loganville, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Joshua and Isabella Motley, Kaitlin and Parker Oliver and Maddox and Jason Haas. Marjorie lived a full life and was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.

She enjoyed flowers, reading and her grandchildren. She truly had unconditional love for everyone. She loved the Lord and served her church.

Survivors include her children, James L. Nichols, Debra L. (Steven) Hansen, Rhonda M. Nichols; grandchildren, Colby J. Josvanger, Stacey L. Coudron; great-grandchildren, Spencer J. Lorenz, Alyse K. (Richard) Ekstrand; and two great-great-grandchildren, all of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Derrick worked for Mariposa Farms as a greenhouse technician in Grinnell, and layout builder for Jeld-Wen/Doorcraft, also in Grinnell. He also worked at the Fridley Movie Theatre and Video Store in Grinnell, Iowa.

His interests included family, sports, science, hiking, computers and music.

Those left to honor his memory include his parents; sister, Erin (Mick) Magner, Rock Island; son, Avery Verona, Grinnell; daughter, Haily Bubon, Grinnell; and nieces, Elle and Ava Jennings.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Emilie was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Davenport, the daughter of Biago and Helen (Glowacki) Fulli. She was united in marriage to Donald M. Baxter on Jan. 7, 1967 in Milan. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2011.

Emilie and Don had owned a travel agency and Emilie had worked at Davenport\u2019s former President Casino first as a token seller, a hostess with the casino's Events Department and finally as Captain\u2019s Club supervisor.

She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife and mother, opening her home to family and friends, cooking, baking and enjoying wine. She loved gardening, decorating and breaking bread with her visitors.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Rick Fagan of Pooler, Georgia; her son, Tony Baxter of Bettendorf; her brothers, Carl and Michael Fulli, both of Rock Island; and special friends, Mary Fisher, Ernie and Linda Smith and Connie Oszfolk.

In addition to her husband, Don, her parents, her daughter, Niki, and her grandson, Dustin Fagan, preceded Emilie in death.

Emilie\u2019s family would like to welcome all visitors to her home at any time to join her family in sharing memories and fellowship in her honor.

DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 Allan A. Curtis, 81, a resident of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Al will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday 4-7 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport. Allan Anthony Curtis was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Bernard, Iowa, a son of Mike and Ruth (Johnson) Curtis. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Helen Ryan on Oct. 31, 1959.

Al had been an assembler at Deere & Co., Dubuque Works for 19 years and retired from the North Scott School District in 1998. Al was an active parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for many years. He served as Eucharistic Minister, usher and daily altar server. He enjoyed his time spent volunteering at church, but cherished the time he had with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy. Al was an avid golfer who truly enjoyed the sport.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 58 years, Helen; and their children, Randy (Lisa) Curtis, Round Lake, Illinois, Lu (Tom) Hamerlinck, Davenport, Lori (Karl) Christoff, Donahue, and Lisa (Jim) Moellenbeck, Davenport; 11 grandchildren, Eric and Karrie Curtis, Adam, Ally and Kylie Hamerlinck, Chad, Jillian and Cameron Christoff, and Taylor, Connor and David Moellenbeck; three sisters, Charlene Herrig, and Marie Ambrosy, both of Dubuque; as well as numerous loving extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Bernadine Monneman and Eleanor Curtis, and brothers, Jim, Jack, Larry, Gary and Ronnie Curtis. May they rest in peace.

DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 George E. Finch, 94, of Davenport, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at his residence at Senior Star, Davenport. Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Mr. Finch was born in 1923 in Emington, Illinois, to George W. and Margaret T. Finch. He married Dorothy Maury on Nov. 23, 1946, in Dubuque. She preceded him in death March 5, 2005. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1943 and fought with the 29th Infantry division from D-Day to Saint Lo, during World War II. After returning from the war, he received his private pilot\u2019s license. One of the highlights of his life was having the opportunity to go on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifices. He was a Davenport firefighter for 22 years, retiring in 1978 with the rank of lieutenant. In addition, he also worked as a carpenter/contractor. Among his memberships were St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport American Legion Post 26, Firefighters Local 17 (past president), and the local MDA Chapter (past president).

Survivors include his daughters, Lynn (Dale) Lane of Phoenix, Arizona, Laurie (Kevin) Nurre of Cedar Rapids, and Christine (Brian) Wiedenhoeft of Davenport; sons, Patrick (Colleen) Finch of Davenport and Daniel (Julie) Finch of Davenport; 10 grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle, Alissa, Shawn, Brian, Jennifer, Brooke, KC, Ellie and Matthew; 15 great-grandchildren, Nikki, Tanner, Kylie, Christian, Kenedee, Brennan, Brice, Aiden, Danielle, Noah, Alex, Brandon, Livia, Levi and Bailee. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Margaret Johnson, Martha Negus and Frances Rieck, great-grandchild Aidan Curtis, and special friend Adel Stoffel.

Keith had worked in floral delivery for many years.

Keith was a talented musician/singer when he was a younger man, once appearing on WOC. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Keith is survived by his nephews, Paul Polansky, Cedar Rapids and Matt (Sally) Polansky, Atkins, Iowa.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Virginia Polansky.

EAST MOLINE\u00a0\u2014 Bethel B. Betsworth, 93, of East Moline, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

A memorial service in celebration of Bethel's life will be noon Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, with Rev. Becky Sherwood officiating. Bethel B. Shaffer was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Cleo Myers Shaffer. She graduated from Rowley High School and the Iowa State Teachers College. Bethel taught in a country school from 1942-1946. On Dec. 22, 1946, she married Lowell J. Betsworth at her parent's farm in Brandon, Iowa. He died Jan. 21, 1980.

Bethel was a member of First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, and P.E.O. Chapter BL. She loved spending time with her family and tending to all of her many plants. Her favorite times were spent on her patio admiring her yard or the many family gatherings at her home.

Bethel is survived by her two sons, James (Lisa) Betsworth, East Moline and Robert (Molly) Betsworth, Davenport; son-in-law, Nicholas Maro, Moline; and five grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Castro, Diana (Zachary) Hettenbaugh, Mary Betsworth, Ben Betsworth and LCpl William Betsworth. She always felt very blessed to have lived to enjoy four great-grandchildren, Helo and Mara Castro and Mason and Graham Hettenbaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Linda Maro, and brother, Roberts Shaffer.

WILTON, Iowa\u00a0\u2014 Thomas (Tom) Allen Wenger, 63, of Wilton, passed away Feb. 13, 2017, at the Hospice House of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Cremation Rites have been facilitated by the FCS Life Transition and Cremation Center, located within Muscatine Memorial Park. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Muscatine, with Pastor Luke McCoy of Antioch Christian Church, Cedar Rapids, officiating. Private burial will follow at the family plot at the North Hill Cemetery, in Wayland, Iowa, among six generations of relatives. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at the funeral home.

Tom was born in Muscatine, to Thomas Dean and Margaret Ann (Wolters) Wenger on Jan. 9, 1954. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1972, and in 1999 was inducted into the MHS Hall of Fame for accomplishments in swimming. He studied engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla and the University of Iowa. In 1976, he married his wife of seven years, Julie (Ryan) Walwer of Clinton, and their son, Jason Christopher Wenger, was born in 1979. Tom worked as a millwright for North Star Steel of Wilton for 10 years and Alcoa Bettendorf Works for 24 years.

Tom continued to swim competitively through college and his adult life. He participated in team triathlon events, winning two years running. On Aug. 5, 1988, Tom swam the English Channel, crossing from England to France in 10 hours and 20 minutes. He also competed in trap shooting, achieving the maximum possible handicap of 27 yards. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, competing in iRacing, spectating every form of motorsport, hockey and baseball, and lemon meringue pie.

In retirement, Tom rode his Harley-Davidson to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally several years. He traveled to Belgium and Bahrain, to watch World Endurance Championship auto races, and enjoyed working on a 1976 Plymouth Duster project car. He invested his time loving on his grandchildren and teaching them about hockey and baseball. He also enjoyed spending time with his many wonderful friends.

Tom is survived by his mother, Margaret Wenger of Muscatine; his sister, Karen (Jim) Macon of West Des Moines, Iowa, sister, Susan (Steve) Roelle of Muscatine; his brother, Jeff Wenger of Iowa; his son, Jason (Tori) Wenger; and grandchildren, Donavin, Lauren and Elias Wenger, of Cedar Rapids. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Dean Wenger, granddaughter Amelia Grace Wenger, and beloved cats, Boscoe and Lucille.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the University Hospitals, Iowa City, for the care they gave Tom and for giving us so much time with him.

MOLINE\u00a0\u2014 Dorothy M. Garvis, 90, of Moline, the oldest child of John and Muriel Rayman, passed away Feb. 13, 2017, at Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Dorothy graduated from Salem (South Dakota) High School and attended the University of South Dakota. She was a teacher for many years in that state. She married her college sweetheart, Victor, in 1947. He passed away April 11, 2015. Dorothy and Victor made a permanent move to Moline in 1961. She taught at Seton Elementary in Moline for more than 20 years and was very active at Sacred Heart Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and many ministry activities including the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved playing classics of the '40s and '50s on the piano. She was also well-known for wearing dress hats with style and grace.

Dorothy's greatest love in life was being married to her best friend for more than 67 years and raising four loving children. She has been blessed with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Both she and Victor shared their love of education, touching the lives of hundreds of students, and always encouraging others to pursue their education. Survivors include her children, Mike (Pamela) Garvis of Moline, John (Elizabeth) Garvis of Chicago and Georgina (David) Svec of St. Joseph, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Sandra Garvis of Iowa City; grandchildren, Tris, Abby, Tim (Kara) and Gina Garvis, Madeline, Lydia and Isabelle Svec, and Iris and Robert Postma; four great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Kolbeck; sister-in-law, Karen Rayman; and brother-in-law, Jim Garvis. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel; brother, John; and sister, Marjorie.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers at Clarissa Cook Hospice House for their generous and devoted care of our mother during the final months of her life.

DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 Funeral services for Frances S. \u201cPat\u201d Anthony, 97, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m.\u00a0Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at\u00a0Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary. Mrs. Anthony died\u00a0Monday, Feb. 13, at the home of her son, Stanley, following a lengthy illness.

Frances Salina Detrick was born\u00a0May 6, 1919, in rural New London, Iowa, the daughter of Warren and Donnie (Krakel) Detrick. On March 8, 1941, she married Donald R. Anthony in Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1983.

Pat was a long time member of\u00a0First Presbyterian Church, Davenport, where she was a past deacon, taught Sunday school, was a past member of the Ruth Rebeka Circle, and was a member of\u00a0King's Daughters. She also was a past Cub Scout and Campfire Girls leader, a member of the Royal Neighbors Auxiliary and a weekly member of the Walcott Meal Site card club. Mostly, she was a Mom, Grandma and Great-grandma.

Surviving members of the family include two daughters, Patricia (Frank) Dudek, of Coal Valley, and Sonnia West, of Eldridge; a son, Stanley (Amy) Anthony, of Moline; 15 grandchildren; and many great-and great-great-grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death include her parents; her husband; a daughter, Crystal; a son, Brian; a great-grandson, Brandon; eight sisters and four brothers.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude\u2019s Children\u2019s Research Hospital or Genesis Hospice.

DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 Elaine M. Verdon, 80, of Davenport passed away Feb. 13, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be\u00a04-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Elaine was born March 5, 1936, in Davenport, a daughter of Edwin and Margaret (Schorr) Lamp. On June 17, 1961, she married Vincent A. Verdon in Davenport. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2007.

Elaine worked at a variety of jobs including Parkers Department Store, Thomsen\u2019s, Davenport Times-Democrat, Rainbow Flower Shop and toy making. She retired from the Runge Mortuary in 1990 to care for her grandchildren. Her hobbies included camping, bowling, playing cards and bingo, her puzzle books and attending her grandchildren\u2019s\u2019 sporting events. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her children and spouses, Mary and Matt Dittmer, Sandra and Paul Hedges, Steve and Lisa Verdon, Matthew and Michelle Verdon; her grandchildren, Billy and Kara, Allie, Kyle, Anna, Aubrey, Bryan, Makenna and Mya; brother and sister-in-law, Allyn and Nelda Lamp; sister-in-law and her husband, Edith and Jim Pitts; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Brad; her parents; and her sister, June.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House and an extra special thank you to Beth, her niece, for all of her loving visits.

CLINTON\u00a0\u2014 Irene Joan Pieczynski, 92, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017. Irene was born March 13, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Balak) Cider. She was united in marriage to Waclow Pieczynski on May 11, 1946, in Chicago.

Irene was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and later Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Irene was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a very active member of Democratic Party in the Clinton area. Irene was also very proud and active supporter of her husband, Waclow, who dedicated 26 years of service on the Clinton City Council and the Clinton Community.

Irene enjoyed art and crafts, she loved knitting and crocheting, making doilies, stocking caps and quilts. She loved her Polish heritage and translated Polish to English for her friends and continued keeping up with family and friends in Poland. Above all, she loved her family very much and will be sadly missed.

Irene is survived by her four children, John (Jan) Pieczynski, of Huntsville, Alabama, James (Sharon) Pieczynski, of Goose Lake, Iowa, Jeanne (Kent) Karsjens, of Bondurant, Iowa, Joseph (Michelle) Pieczynski, of Urbandale, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Grosskopf, of Wausau, Wisconsin; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and special recognition to granddaughter Stacy, her family and friends.

Preceding Irene in death were her parents; her husband, Waclow; two sisters and one brother.

CLINTON\u00a0\u2014 Marilyn E. Holle, 84, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at the Alverno, Clinton. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Lemke Funeral Homes - North Chapel (2304 N. 2nd St.), Clinton. Marilyn was born June 2, 1932, in Clinton, the daughter of Bernard and Edith (Bienlein) Opheim. She was a 1950 graduate of Clinton High School and later acquired a teaching degree at Mount Saint Clare College. Marilyn was united in marriage to James C. Holle on Aug. 24, 1957, in Clinton.

She was a lifelong member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Marilyn began her career as an operator for Bell Telephone. She also taught first grade for several years and was a librarian at both Clinton locations for 23 years. Marilyn was also a member of the Friends of the Library, which included delivering books and socializing with the home-bound. She also volunteered for the study connection program at the school as well as volunteering at the pre-school at the YWCA.

Marilyn enjoyed golfing and was very proud to have shot a hole-in-one during one of her outings. She also enjoyed attending the annual Bix Jazz festival. Later in life, she enjoyed brightening the daily lives of her neighbors at the Alverno by singing. Above all, she loved her family very much and enjoyed attending all of her children and grandchildren\u2019s activities.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Mike (Julie) Holle, of Rocheport, Missouri, Kevin (Kathy) Holle, of Bettendorf, Cathy (Eric) Fullick, of Clinton, and Merry (Bob) Tinti, of Torrance, California; grandchildren, Elizabeth Powell, Tyler, Shelby and Miranda Holle, Tomi and Dan Fullick, and Robby and Jason Tinti; one sister, Nancy (Dick) Roberts of Clinton; two sisters-in-law, Donna Opheim, of Thomson, Illinois, and Barb Opheim of Clinton; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents; her husband, James; and two brothers, Bill and Bud Opheim.

PRESTON, Iowa\u00a0\u2014 Margaret Lou Stoecken, 74, of Preston, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at her home. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston. Visitation will be 4-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is assisting the family. Following the funeral Mass, cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date. Margaret was born May 3, 1942, in Rock Island, the daughter of Charles and Honora (O'Brien) Atkinson. She graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1960. She married Roger Stoecken on Oct. 13, 1962, in Clinton. Margaret was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric in Morrison, and operated the Preston Legion Club and Hometown Caf\u00e9. She also did bookkeeping for Stoecken Construction and Trucking. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston, where she was a member of the church council and coordinator\u00a0of funeral luncheons for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Preston American Legion Auxiliary and the Preston Fire Department Auxiliary. Margaret was a \"go to\" person for many area youngsters. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren's activities; watching NASCAR racing, especially Tony Stewart; gardening; baking; and restoring furniture.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Roger Stoecken of Preston; her son, Michael (Kelly) Stoecken of Preston; three daughters, Mary Kay (Rory) Stone of Clinton, Michelle (Curtis) Farley of Clinton, and Melanie (Brad) Davis of Darlington, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Kiira, Heather, and Rory \"Calvin\" Stone, Elesha Briggs, Tricia (Adam) Landheer, Shawn Farley, Jacob and Markell Stoecken; six great-grandchildren, William, Rowan, Hendrix, Michael, Gideon and Chloe; three brothers, Larry (Jackie) Atkinson of Camanche, Iowa, Dan Atkinson of Moline, and Steve (Debbie) Atkinson of Davenport; five sisters, Pat (Frank) Greve of Camanche, Nan (Marv) Fiest of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Mardella Dorrell of Chula Vista, California, Bonnie (Gray) Tebbe of Preston, and Mary (Onie) Butt of Clinton; four brothers-in-law, Chuck Klinkner of Clinton, Tony Schultz of Camanche, Steve Brown of South Carolina, and Fred Stoecken of Bellevue, Iowa; nine sisters-in-law, Carol Atkinson of Preston, Jane Atkinson of Preston, Bev Boultinhouse of Silvis, Linda Atkinson of Lost Nation, Iowa, Marie Rossman of Preston, and Barb Dodds of Clinton, Doris (Earl) Shields of Albany, Illinois, Linda (Norman) Jaeger and Laurel (Robert) Nelsonof Inverness, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charles (Jack), Joe, Bill and Jim Atkinson; three sisters, Fran Klinkner, Kay Schultz and Rhonda Brown; brother-in-law, Gary Dorrell, two sisters-in-law, Louise (Don) DeWitt and Betty Stoecken. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Larry Lester French was born Sept. 22, 1948, in Davenport, a son of Ivan \u201cPete\u201d and Betty (Leslie) French.

Prior to his retirement Larry had been a heavy equipment operator\u00a0at Tri-City Blacktop.

Larry loved his children deeply and enjoyed working on cars with his son. He was also the \u201cgo-to guy\u201d for repairs of any type.

He was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Rebecca (Jason) Zirkel, of Davenport, Neil (Laura) Shelley, of Blue Grass; grandson, Dalton Shelley, of Blue Grass; siblings Susan (Frank) Caes, of Hale, Iowa, Gary (Chris) French, Marcia French, Mary French, all of Davenport, and Bill (Diane) French, of Peoria.

Memorials\u00a0may be made to Sacred Heart Church or American Heart Association.

Dan was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Brazil, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Katie (Tomich) Simatovich. He married Carol J. Wind on Sept. 26, 1970, in Hammond, Indiana. Dan was in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.

Dan worked at Mueller-Bahnsen Lumber Company as a yard foreman, retiring after 32 years of service.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Moline, American Legion Post 246, Moline;\u00a0VFW Velie Post 2153, Moline; Croatian Crest Club, Moline; and the Croatian Fraternal Lodge 217, Benld, Illinois. He enjoyed golfing and fishing in Minnesota. He loved the Bears, watching Notre Dame and Alleman football games.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; nephew, Ron Poljak, of Rock Island; niece, Jan (Gary) Merridith, of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Poljak, Frances Meewes, Ellen Kauzlarich; brothers, Joe and Steve Cvitonavich.

DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 Janice Eugenia Smirles, 79, of Davenport, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.

Janice was born Nov. 18, 1937, in Rock Island, the daughter of William and Katina Petros Smirles.

She was employed as a teacher\u2019s aide at Washington Elementary School, Davenport, and later as a computer operator at Deere & Co., Davenport Works.

Janice was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, where she played the organ, taught Sunday school and organized and ran the gift shop. She also made memorial trays for years. Janice was a member of both the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos.

She was a craft volunteer at the East Village Windows and was a member of Toastmasters with Deere & Co.

She was Ridgecrest Volunteer of the Year. She also instructed Greek cooking classes at Scott Community College. She participated in many social activities and was a cake decorator, making many wedding and sheet cakes.

Janice was the biggest cheerleader for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and never missed one of their school or sporting events. She was known as \u201cYia Yia.\u201d

Survivors include her son, Bill (Cindy) Sweeney, of Davenport; daughter, Liz (Don) Dorton, of Davenport; grandchildren, Michael (Maja) Dorton, of Davenport, Stephanie Dorton, of Davenport, Joe Dorton, of Davenport, Sara (Jared DeGeeter) Dorton, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Tommy Dorton, of Davenport, Lauren Sweeney, of Davenport and Kory Sweeney, of Davenport; great-grandchildren, Zoey Dorton, Deaken Dorton and Levi Dorton; beloved nieces, Mary Kay (Steve) Eckert, of Moline and Margurerite (Richard) Nelson, of Moline; nephews, Ted Spurgetis, of Rock Island and Bill (Cheri) Smirles, of Deerfield, Illinois; great-nephews, Jayme Eckert (Sara and Brecken), of Moline, and Jonathan (Margit) Smirles, of Melbourne, Florida; great-nieces, Georgena (Ben) Barnes, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Mary Kate (James) Fisher, of Chicago; and great-great-nephews, George Barnes, of Urbandale and Henry Barnes, of Urbandale.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Ridgecrest Nursing Center for their excellent care.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Estelle G. Spurgetis and brother, James Smirles.
