You keep hearing about Bulletproof coffee, and now it is coming to it's own coffee shops in cities across the country. There's a lot more too it than just plopping a pat of butter into your morning joe, it's full of health benefits. We love anything that falls into the bucket of delicious ways to enhance your health. Bulletproof coffee is next level, super rich and tasty. Plus, it turns your brain on, really getting things to buzz and function at a higher level.
We've landed on our own favorite recipe. Our Bulletproof coffee is pretty obviously inspired by Dave Asprey’s original — which was un-obviously inspired by yak butter tea he drank in Tibet. But we amp up our coffee in our own way, adding some extra skin boosting and hormone balancing ingredients. Before we get to our awesome recipe, six quick things your should know about Bulletproof Coffee:
1. A purest uses Bulletproof to burn fat
Bulletproof coffee fits into a ketogenic diet, a high fat, low carb eating plan. Keto and low-carb diets incredibly popular right now (but know that they're not for everyone). The desired effect is that by cutting down carbs and amping up fats, you train your body to burn fat for fuel, rather than sugars. Bulletproof coffee is loaded with healthy fats and is the perfect keto breakfast. But, you can most definitely drink Bulletproof coffee without going whole hog on ketos. Try subbing it for breakfast a couple time per week, use it for your post-workout fuel-up or mid-morning snack.
2. High-quality coffee is a must
Dave Asprey, the founder of Bulletproof Coffee, contends that many coffee beans imported into the US are contaminated with mold which are mycotoxins and bad for all of us. They’re associated with poor brain function, high blood pressure, kidney issues and even cancer.
3. The butter is your creamer
When you think about it, butter is simply cream that has been churned. It’s the most delicious and rich cream you could use. Bulletproof coffee calls for grass-fed butter, so you get the most high-quality fats. Better yet, you can use grass-fed ghee, which removes all the milk proteins from the butter, making it tolerable for those with milk protein allergies or lactose intolerance.
4. MCTS feed your brain
MCT oil, an ingredient in Bulletproof coffee, is highly refined coconut oil. It’s just the purest, energy source of the fat, and it goes straight to feeding your brain.
5. You must blend
When you blend everything together, you get a frothy foamy and creamy latte. Blending allows the MCT oils and butter to emulsify, so they don’t just sit on the top of your cup like an oil slick.

We like to experiment with a whole range of delicious and buzzy additives. We blend in everything from adaptogens like ashwagandha for stress to vanilla stevia for sweetness.

- 2 Cups of high-quality coffee, like Bulletproof.
- 2 Tbsp of 4th & Heart Vanilla Bean Ghee
- 2 Tbsp of MCT Oil, we use Bulletproof’s Brain Octane Oil
- 4 Drops of vanilla stevia
- 1 Tbsp of Grass-fed collagen protein. A good, pure source of protein and works wonder for your skin.
- 1 Tsp of maca powder, for an extra hormone-balancing energy boost
