Explore growing, cooking strawberries and rhubarb
Strawberries and rhubarb are in season and it is a great time to learn about how to grow them in the garden and use them in the kitchen with a class from the University of Illinois Extension.
Martha Smith, horticulture educator, and Kristen Bogdonas, nutrition and wellness educator, will talk about growing both and what problems you may encounter. Bogdonas will introduce you to different recipes that utilize both.
All classes will be from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
June 6: Henry Stark Counties Extension office, 358 Front St., Galva, Illinois.
June 7: Mercer County Health Department, 305 NW 7th St., Aledo, Illinois.
June 12: Rock Island County Extension, 321 W. 2nd Ave., Milan.

Extension offers herb workshop
Herbalicious! Growing and using herbs is always popular — especially when you can use fresh from your own garden or container.
University of Illinois Extension is offering a make and take class where you will learn best practices for growing and using herbs in creative culinary infusions. Martha Smith, horticulture educator, will lead participants in planting their own herb container to enjoy for the rest of the season.
Kristen Bogdonas, nutrition and wellness educator, will lead a make and take of herb-infused salt blends. Herb infused beverages and snacks also will be ready for you to sample.
The cost is $10 and includes an herb garden to take home. Pick the date and location that works for you. Register online at web.extension.illinois.edu/hmrs or call your Extension office.
