The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton, Iowa, was recognized by the Iowa Health Care Association for its specialized End of Life Program.
The Alverno received a Quality Care Program Award in recognition of its program to assist individuals and their families as they enter the difficult end-of-life process.
Staff members spend a great deal of time speaking with residents and families regarding their medical needs and final wishes. A comfort basket filled with various items, such as a CD player and soothing music, lotions and prayers, is shared with the resident. Continuing care for the family is provided by a quarterly memorial service and a presentation of a Willow Tree Serenity Angel to families of the deceased.
