For the past two weeks, hospitals in the Genesis Health System hospitals have treated and admitted patients with seasonal influenza.
More than 10 patients have been admitted at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, and others at Genesis hospitals in DeWitt and Silvis.
Most seasonal influenza patients are able to stay home or return home after seeing their doctor. However, the youngest and the oldest and people with chronic conditions, such as COPD or heart disease, are at higher risk for serious problems with seasonal flu.
Genesis is asking all visitors to limit the frequency and length of their visits and to practice good hand hygiene and cough hygiene when they visit. Wash the hands when entering and exiting a patient’s room.
Genesis also requests limited visitation by young children to prevent the spread of viruses to patients, staff and other visitors.
Genesis asks that all visitors be in good health when they visit patients.
If staff members see a visitor coughing or sneezing, they may request the visitor to wear a mask or request the visitor to leave the patient care area. Visitors should refrain from visiting if they have had flu-like symptoms during the past seven days.
Patients in the Genesis facilities who are coughing will be asked to wear a mask.
