Botanical center begins holiday lights display
The Quad-City Botanical Center, 2525 4th Ave., Rock Island, will light its outside gardens during December for a first-time Winter Nights, Winter Lights holiday light display.
A cocktail party from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, will accompany the inaugural lighting. The event will include cocktails, heavy hors' de oeuvres and a complimentary champagne toast.

Public viewing dates of the light display will be 4:30-8:30 p.m. Dec 4-7, 11-20, 22-24, and 26-30.Admission is $8 for adults and $4 youth. (Members or FunBundle holders will $2 off each admission.) Children under 2 are free.
Other special December events:
• 2-6 p.m. Dec. 10, Santa Time Tea. In addition to the display, you can visit with Santa, drink holiday tea and participate in take-home crafts and activities. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance by going to shop.qcgardens.com.
• 3-8 p.m., Dec. 17, Blooming with Song. The display along with holiday music sung by area choirs.
Butterworth, Deere-Wiman invite you to 19th century Christmas
The annual 19th Century Christmas at Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House in Moline will be noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, with free family activities, cookies and punch and music.
The Butterworth Center is at 1105 8th St. and the Deere-Wiman House is at 817 11th Ave. Both are historic Deere family homes that will be decorated throughout for the holidays.
Attractions include an appearance by Santa Claus, a free book for each of Santa's first 400 visitors, a performance by the Moline Boys Choir, face painting, a caricature artist and an art show.
Children's make-and-take crafts sponsored by Left Bank Art League will be in the Deere-Wiman Carriage House and crafts sponsored by WQPT Quad-Cities PBS will be in the Education Center.
In addition, the Rock Island County Historical Society also will host an open house in its Atkinson-Peek house museum and library, located in the same area, at 822 11th Ave.
Hauberg notes 50th Winter in Bloom
The Hauberg Civic Center at 1300 24th St., Rock Island, will host its 50th annual Winter in Bloom event from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, with holiday decorations throughout the mansion.
Other attractions include light refreshments, live music and a pop-up shop with unique, Hauberg-themed gifts. For children there will be a scavenger hunt, crafts and a visit by Santa.
Visitors also are welcome to tour the mansion.
