Friends of the Muscatine Art Center, 1314 Mulberry Ave., is sponsoring a handmade ornament competition as a fundraiser.

Cash prizes will be award in two categories, one for adults and one for ages 18 and younger. All ornaments must be delivered to the center by 5 p.m. Nov. 12.

They will then be on display at the center from Nov. 18-Dec. 14, and will be sold or auctioned.

Those contributing an ornament will receive a complimentary ticket for the Norman Rockwell’s Home for the Holiday event on the evening of Nov. 18, featuring catered hors d’oeuvres, musical entertainment and the opportunity to purchase ornaments.

To spark ideas, the center is offering two ornament making classes. Local artist Carol Steinmetz will teach the adult class on Oct. 26, and Julie Lear will teach the children’s class on Nov. 4. Participants will be able to make multiple ornaments in class and in lieu of a class fee, participants will be asked to either donate one of their ornaments to the competition or make a small donation.

Friends of the Muscatine Art Center is a non-profit organization supporting educational programs at the center.
