Some of the best waterfowl callers in the country will be in Burlington, Iowa, on Saturday, Feb. 3, for the Mississippi Valley Calling Classic.
The 20th annual event will begin with the Mississippi Valley Youth Duck Calling Contest at 8:30 a.m. in the PZAZZ! Convention and Event Center. The youth contest is open to those 16 years and younger. The event continues with the Iowa State Duck Calling Contest, an open goose calling contest, a two-person meat goose calling contest and the Boyle Regional Duck Calling Contest. Competitors are looking to get the chance to be in the World's Championship this fall in Arkansas.
“We expect to have a good turnout from both spectators and callers alike; with some of the best callers in the nation competing for prize money of up to $1,000 for first place,” Ron Vorwerk, charter member of the Mississippi Valley Callers Association, said in a news release.
The event includes free admission, raffles, and more than 150 vendors. There will also be food and drinks.
“When it comes to waterfowl calling, we have the best right here in Iowa," Vorweck said in the news release. "Since our contest began, five Iowans have won the World’s Championship. That says a tremendous amount about the quality of the competition you’ll hear in Burlington this February.”
