Clock Tower/Eagle watching tours

DETAILS: The corps will set up telescopes on the fifth floor of the 150-year-old Clock Tower, where participants may view birds to the west. Those interested in attending one of the tours on Arsenal Island must first stop at the Visitor Control Center at the Moline gate, where they will be asked for a driver's license or other approved identification. Potato soup hike

DETAILS: Join members of the Black Hawk Hiking Club on their walk along the oldest recreational trail in the Quad-Cities. Following the hike, organizers will provide bowls of potato soup, utensils, crackers, coffee and hot cocoa. Bring your own cup. DETAILS: The city's second annual Winter Carnival includes free outdoor ice painting and snow games at Faye's Field, as well as several other indoor activities at Bettendorf Public Library, Family Museum and Life Fitness Center. Weather permitting, there also will be cross-country skiing at Palmer Hills Golf Course and ice skating at Frozen Landing. A shuttle service will stop at those spots and Crow Creek Park about every 15 minutes.

Frozen Fat Fondo Fest

DETAILS: Find a bike with at least 3.5-inch-thick tires and race through the thick lowland forest and chunky Mississippi River shoreline. Friends of Off-Road Cycling is hosting a three-hour endurance relay. Riders will participate as a three-person relay team or solo on fat bikes.
