February flew by, and now that we are in March, it’s time to consider what your best buys are this month. Now that we have had a couple sneak peek days for spring, more people are looking toward spring break and summer. With that in mind, some of the best buys for the month will be useful for the months ahead. But don’t forget that many stores are still doing clearance for winter gear that you can put away for next year.
Most schools have spring break in March, so many people do travel during the month and businesses know it, so you will see discounts on suitcases making it the best time to buy them. Even if you aren’t planning a big spring break trip, take a look at your luggage now and see if you need an upgrade rather than waiting until your vacation in July when the luggage is more expensive.
I wish the weather was currently warm enough to start wearing sandals, but I’m still rocking the boots. In fact, the sandals start making their appearance in the store while snow is still on the ground, but you don’t want to buy right when they appear. March is the first of markdowns on sandals. So if you really need them for summer, buy them now for the best selection because by the time summer actually comes around, you won’t find the best selections out there.
March is National Frozen Foods Month so you will find lots of sales on frozen foods from ice cream to pizzas to entrees. If you don’t have a deep freezer, consider getting one. In the long run, it will pay for itself with the money you save when you buy frozen foods on sale. Plus, buying fresh meat when it’s the cheapest and freezing it is a great use of a deep freezer, too. If you want to save even more money on frozen foods, then it would be a good time to try your hand at couponing — you’ll find lots of coupons to match up with those sales this month!
A new furnace or air conditioner
Spring is the off season for heating and cooling companies, which makes it the best time for you to get that new furnace or air conditioner you might be putting off because you just don’t want to spend the money on it. You might even find a deal by doing both at the same time. But it’s better to save the money on it now and do it before it goes out next December in the midst of negative wind chills or snow storms, or when it’s 100 degrees out and humid in July.
Perfume and jewelry
These items are often purchased for gifts in February for Valentine’s Day when the prices are steep. So instead of buying perfume and jewelry in February, March is one of the months you’ll see lower prices. Plus, bonus tip: this is the best time to buy boxed chocolates as well. So, maybe next year, just celebrate Valentine’s Day in March, if your significant other agrees to it.
TVs and small consumer electronics
Of course Black Friday prices are usually lower on these items, but March is a good month for TVs and small electronics. In the spring, companies start putting out new models and get rid of the older models. So if you’re not someone that has to be the first to own the newest electronics and are willing to buy older models, this is the time to start looking.
March is lacking in holidays to really see a lot of sales in stores, but stores are still looking to draw you in, so be sure to keep an eye on those ads, especially in search of these items. Bonus: if you’re looking to have a date night this month, March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, and it’s a Saturday this year, so check your favorite restaurants and see what specials they might be offering. Now that you know what to look for this month, get out there and save some money.
