The freshman center didn’t get off to a great start in his college career but by the end of the season, he had emerged as one of the best young big men in the Big Ten. He scored in double figures in 20 games and averaged 17.7 points per game in the last six games, recording the fourth highest point total ever by an Iowa freshman (400, 12.1 per game) and breaking the freshman rebounding record. His presence should ease the sting if Cook decides to leave. Garza looks clumsy and awkward at times and doesn’t look very smooth doing anything except shooting mid-range jump shots, but he’s a highly productive player and a ferocious competitor. The kid really wants to win badly and that’s never a bad thing.
