News staff report

The first of two public information sessions is tonight so that people may learn more about development plans related to the multi-use recreation trail extension between Leach Park in Bettendorf and the Duck Creek Parkway Trailhead in Riverdale, Iowa.

The sessions will be from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Bettendorf City Hall, 1609 State St., and 7-9 p.m. Aug. 28 at Riverdale City Hall, 110 Manor Drive. The trail extension will be financed with federal funds and matching funds from Bettendorf and Riverdale. The money will be used to determine the alignment and development of the trail and for its construction.

No final decisions have been made as to the alignment of the trail. Engineering staff from Missman-Stanley and Associates, the firm charged with project development and oversight, will be at the meetings to field questions and take suggestions. Members of the project steering committee also will be there.

The steering committee includes representatives from the Riverdale and Bettendorf city councils and park boards as well as members of the Quad-City Bike Club, River Action and commercial and industrial property owners.
