The Center for Active Seniors, Inc. asks for help with its Senior Secret Santa program.
According to Samantha Meier, assistant director of marketing at CASI, many older adults spend the holidays alone in their homes with few friends or little family support. It is estimated that more than 50 percent of adults report feeling lonely during the holiday season. "This feeling can be intensified for older adults who have lost loved ones over the years," according to Meier. Many seniors report not leaving their homes and not receiving visitors or gifts during the holiday season.
At CASI, the gift lists for many older adults consist of everyday household and personal-care items, Meier said.
To become part of the CASI Senior Secret Santa program, visit tinyurl.com/casisanta or stop into CASI and tell the receptionist how much you want to donate.
Funds raised through the program will be used to purchase gifts and services for seniors during the holidays and throughout the year.
Participants also can pick a tag off the tree in the CASI lobby, purchase a gift and return the git to CASI by Friday.
