Iowa Health System, the nation’s fifth-largest nondenominational health system, is now UnityPoint Health, officials announced this week.
In the Quad-City region, UnityPoint Health—Trinity consists of Trinity Regional Health System’s four hospitals (Trinity Bettendorf, Trinity Muscatine, Trinity Rock Island and Trinity Moline) as well as the Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences, the Robert Young Center for Community Mental Health, Trinity Health Enterprises and the Trinity Health Foundation.
Trinity has nearly 3,100 employees and 600 physicians on its medical staffs.
Health system officials said in a prepared statement that the new name reflects the way its hospitals, physicians and home care entities are transforming health care delivery through patient-centered, coordinated care. The overall system name also includes the former Iowa Health Physicians & Clinics (now UnityPoint Clinic) and Iowa Health Home Care (now UnityPoint at Home and UnityPoint Hospice).
UnityPoint Health got its start in 1993 in Des Moines, when Iowa Methodist and Iowa Lutheran merged to form Iowa Health System. Since then, UnityPoint Health has grown to encompass eight geographic regions in Iowa and Illinois.
“The way we deliver health care is fundamentally changing,” said Rick Seidler, the president and CEO of Trinity. “And, as a result, a name was needed that reflects our new way of providing care by putting the patient at the center of everything we do. Our team of doctors, specialists and home care providers are united in purpose to achieve best outcomes for our patients. Now, the system’s brand name better expresses that.”
There will be no changes in management, structure or staff involved in this brand change. Overall, UnityPoint Health employs more than 24,000 people throughout Iowa and Illinois, and each region will maintain its existing leadership and local boards of directors.
“Maintaining leadership at the local level reinforces that we still are Trinity,” Seidler said.
In addition to the Quad-City/Muscatine area, the regions within UnityPoint Health include: Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Fort Dodge, Sioux City and Waterloo, Iowa, as well as Peoria, Ill.
