An early Thursday morning fire in the Aledo Industrial Park damaged a plating manufacturer.

Firefighters were called to Meminger Metal Finishing about 4 a.m.

“It appears to be an electrical cause,” Aledo Fire Chief Dennis Litwiler said. “We had a couple of plastic tanks that created a lot of smoke and a lot of heat for us. We were able to ventilate the roof and get inside and get the fire put out. There’s a lot of smoke damage and equipment damage. I don’t believe it’s a complete loss.”

Mutual aid was provided by the Viola Fire Department. No one was working at the time, and there were no injuries.

Meminger employs about 80 people in the Mercer County area and has 128 customers.

“The fire was pretty isolated to one corner of the building,” owner Bruce Meminger said. “We had some equipment that caught on fire, and it was extinguished.”

Meminger also is a volunteer Aledo firefighter.

“Production will not resume right away,” he said. “We got some pretty extensive work to repair. Everybody that works in that facility will report to work like normal, so it will be basically business as normal for the people working at Meminger Metal Finishing.”
