If you're making a playlist for the weekend, it would include a little bit of everything: comic-infused country, old-school blues and a rockin' local band. Keep reading to see what I mean.

Rodney Carrington

Donning a brimmed hat and blue jeans, Rodney Carrington has the look a good ol’ country singer. But he’s also a comedian. His show is sometimes just-for-laughs, but when talking about his "Here Comes the Truth" tour, it's not all jokes. "I know when someone's laughing they are void of any sorrow for that brief moment," Carrington said in an email. "I take joy in that." Carrington will  perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Adler Theatre, 136 E. 3rd St., Davenport. Tickets  are $44.75, and available at the Adler Theatre Box Office, Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.

Blues and Roots

The River Music Experience is hosting a blues-themes series that kicks off on Friday. Before Toronzo Cannon, a Chicago-based blues guitarist, puts on a show, he will lead a free workshop from 4-5 p.m. Friday. The concert, which also features Juliana & A Soul Purpose, starts at 8 p.m. at the Redstone Room, 129 Main St., Davenport. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Indie and more

Have you missed Daytrotter shows since Daytrotter Downs? They're back with a bundle of alternative-type bands on tap Saturday. Get your indie and folk fix with a lineup including Nashville-based Escondido, country and rock artist Jace Everett, Quad-City band Condor & Jaybird and Champaign-based Tara Terra at Daytrotter, 324 Brady St., Davenport. Doors open at 5 p.m. and music starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
