Angel Tree Program begins: The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program, which provides new toys for children of families who are having a hard time adding Christmas gifts to their budget, has begun. Quad-City Walmart stores have trees decorated with paper angel tags listing a child’s age, gender and toy ideas. Anyone wanting to participate can select an angel tag from the tree and purchase a gift for a child. New, unwrapped toys for a child, along with the original tag, can be returned to any Angel Tree location. The last day you can choose an angel is Sunday, Dec. 15, to allow time for distribution by the Salvation Army. Gifts for 11-and 12-year-olds are especially needed.

Beginning Nov. 29, Angel Trees also will be located at JC Penney court of NorthPark Mall, Davenport; Younkers court of SouthPark Mall, Moline, and  Chick-fil-A on 53rd Street in Davenport.

Angel Tree volunteers are needed to staff the trees at the malls. Signup is available at

Businesses or churches that would like to host an Angel Tree should contact Holly Nomura at 563-271-7933.
