MUSCATINE, Iowa — A Muscatine woman has been charged with forgery, a class D felony.

According to court records, on Dec. 8, 2011, Lupita Torres, 23, whose address was last reported as 405 1/2 E. Sixth St., altered a check that was made out to the Washington PTO and used it to purchase merchandise at Kum and Go.

A class D felony carries a prison term of up to five years and a fine from $750-$7,500.

Torres was released from the Muscatine County Jail on her own recognizance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
