Midwest Writing Center’s winners of the 2010 Quad-City Iron Pen Contest will read their works and receive awards at 7 p.m. Friday at Midwest Writing Center, 225 E. 2nd St., Suite 303, Davenport. Entries were inspired by the prompt, “but then, I was the one who never broke a bone.”

  • Nonfiction winners were: 1st place:, Mary Davidsaver, “Danger in the Snow;” 2nd place:, Marjean O’Brien, “I’ve Done Crazy Things in My Life;” 3rd place, Tom Miller, “Occupation.”
  • Fiction winners were: 1st place, Kat Bert, “Ink;” 2nd place, Wayne Sapp, “The Lodge;” 3rd place, Jane Carmen, “Language Barrier.”
  • Youth fiction winners: 1st place, Becky Hixon, “The Soul Riders Litany;” 2nd place, Haleigh Tucker, “Bleeding Heart;” 3rd place, Joshua Byrne, “To the Best of my Knowledge.”
  • Poetry winners: 1st place, Michelle Ladwig, “Blood Brother;” 2nd place, Sal Marici, “Prudence;” 3rd place, William Hudson, “Pain without Breaks.”
