Division Street widening project begins today
The Division Street widening project between Cheyenne and Northwest Boulevard gets under way this morning in Davenport. The first phase of construction is from the 5800 block north to Northwest Boulevard, although sewer and utility work may occur anywhere along the project causing some intermittent lane closures and possible delays.
During the first phase, Division Street will be closed to through traffic from south of Wood Intermediate School to Northwest Boulevard. Access will be provided to the school from Northwest Boulevard when school begins. Drivers are advised to use an alternate route for the remainder of the construction season.
Other road projects to keep an eye out for this morning include:
• A sewer collapse has forced the closure of Washington Street between 13th and 14th streets in Davenport. The repair will take some time to complete, so drivers are advised to use an alternate route until the street is reopened
• An asphalt paving project has begun on North 3rd Street in Clinton.
The schedule is through Friday: Paving from 13th Avenue North to 17th Avenue North.
Saturday: Paving on 17th Avenue North from 3rd to 4th Street

Monday through July 22: Paving from 8th Avenue North to 13th Avenue North
North 3rd Street should be open by July 24.

• Preparation for the construction of a new Interstate 80 bridge over the Cedar River in Cedar County is expected to cause intermittent lane closures from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. until the westbound lanes of I-80 are eventually closed at the bridge. Once the westbound bridge is closed, westbound traffic will be routed onto the old eastbound bridge. Eastbound traffic is now traveling on the new eastbound bridge and will not be affected by the work. Once the traffic shift occurs, this traffic pattern is expected to be in place until September 2010.
• McCarthy Improvement is working on the outside eastbound lane of 23rd Avenue in Moline from 18th Street A to 25th Street. This outside eastbound lane is closed to traffic and then the construction will move to the westbound lanes. The duration of the work will be about 2-3 months.

• The westbound lane (Iowa-bound) of Interstate 74 is closed from John Deere Road to the Mississippi River bridge for work that includes bridge repairs and concrete patching. The outside (right) lane is closed. When completed, work will be moved to the inside lanes.
