COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - A Washington teen swimming with friends in the Iowa River drowned early Wednesday, the Louisa County Sheriff's Department said.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Twin Forks Access, a county park located along the Iowa River near Columbus Junction at 1:08 a.m., the Sheriff's Department said.
When they reached the scene, deputies learned that Clinton Austin Fankhauser, 15, was swimming with friends when he went missing under the water.
Fankhauser's friends were unable to locate him. The teen's body was later found in the water by Wapello and Columbus Junction firefighters.
The incident remains under investigation by the Louisa County Sheriff's Department.
