The U.S. Army Sustainment Command, or ASC, has taken over operations of the Directorate of Logistics, effective Monday, according to a news release from the ASC.

ASC is headquartered at the Rock Island Arsenal. The transfer involves 73 Directorate of Logistics locations, 49 in the United States and 24 overseas.

The directorate had been under the U.S. Army Installation Management Command and was transferred to the U.S. Army Materiel Command. The ASC is a subordinate command of the Army Materiel Command.

The Directorate of Logistics provides supply, equipment maintenance, transportation, ammunition management, laundry, bulk fuel, property book and food services at Army installations. The directorate’s work force includes 5,000 civilian employees, 100 military personnel and 18,000 contractors.

The transfer is being done with existing resources and will not result in an immediate change in employment levels at ASC headquarters or at any of the directorate’s locations.
