Q. Now that we have a new police chief in Bettendorf, do you think he will start enforcing the speed limit laws and stop light laws? Over here on 18th Street and Central Avenue we have a four way stop, but the people cruise on through. It's a joke. People just cruise right through. It doesn't matter if they are going straight or making a right turn they don't bother to stop. They just cruise on through. I was just wondering if the police chief plans on enforcing these laws that we have. It would be a good way to lower the debt in Bettendorf. – Brian, Bettendorf

A. Bettendorf Police Chief Phil Redington is scheduled to retire on May 31, 2018, according to an article by Quad-City reporter Devan Patel published on Oct. 29, 2017. To view view the full article about his retirement visit qctimes.com/askthetimes

We did contact Chief Redington regarding your questions and concerns. Redington said, "The intersection of 18th Street and Central Avenue can be a busy intersection. Our officers are in that area throughout the day and night as that is one of our main north/south streets in Bettendorf. In reviewing our accident history for the past year I found that we have had two property damage accidents at that intersection. At times, drivers fail to pay attention to our posted speed limits or come to a complete stop at a intersection. These actions can cause serious accidents. I will ask our traffic officers to give that area extra patrol.

"We ask drivers to stay focused on their driving and obey the rules of the road. The rules are there for the safety of all motorist and pedestrians."

Q. Why is there not a continuous piece of sidewalk on either side of 53rd Street from Brady to Jersey Ridge Road? -- Michael

A. We contacted the city of Davenport to find out. Nicole Gleason, Davenport public works director/assistant city administrator, responded:

"The City of Davenport has a project planned for 2019/2020 that will reconstruct and widen 53rd Street as well as fill in missing sidewalk connections from Elmore Circle to Brady Street and add a shared use trail. Missing sidewalk links are typically filled in as development is made and/or funding is available."

Q. Will the third lane of John Deere Road eastbound be opened soon, or are they waiting until westbound has all three lanes? -- Travis

A. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, "The third lane on East-bound John Deere Road will not be opened this year. The current geometry of the roadway won't allow it."

Q. On a Christmas wreath, should the bow go on the top or the bottom of the wreath? -- Doug, Davenport

A. The general consensus seems to be that the bow can go anywhere on the wreath that you choose. Here is a link to some online articles on the subject including opinion polls. http://bit.ly/2C3M6Fr
