Association providing educational opportunities: The Rock Island County Home and Community Education Association will provide educational lessons open to the public and extension members. Lessons include, “Grandparents Have an Important Role in a Child’s Life,” “Managing a Gluten Free Diet,” “Finance Tips for Retirees in Today’s Economy,” “Homemade Breads for the Holidays,” “Parenting,” “Preparing for a Nursing Home Visit,” “In the Kitchen with Whole Grains” and “Finding Strength in Trying Times.”

The association will offer special additional lessons, “His and Her Quilts” at the Cultural Awareness Day; “Fall Theme Paper Cutting” by Keith Bonnstetter; make a “Mini One-foot Barnquilt”; “Spring Fling”; and “Pysanky” (painted Easter eggs).

The organization also is making plans for its fall fundraiser, its spring fundraiser and International Day honoring South Africa.
