As a part of the Center for Student Life construction project, the Special Collections area in Augustana’s Thomas Tredway Library underwent a renovation and is ready to be used for research and teaching again.

An open house will be 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the first floor of the library at 3435 9 1/2 Ave., Rock Island. Selected materials from the collection will be featured in the Reading Room, as will the current exhibit on the Dakota Conflict of 1862 and a display on library history.

College President Steven Bahls will speak and refreshments will be served.

“The new space is more visible on the first floor, which we hope will draw more people into Special Collections,” Special Collections Librarian Sarah Horowitz said.

The renovations include a 24-seat classroom, a better space for indexing and organizing materials, and an improved infrastructure for maintaining temperature and humidity to prolong the life of the materials.

During renovations, librarians had to move all the materials held by Special Collections into storage for four months, and then from storage into the new space.
