The East Moline woman found dead in a car submerged in the Mississippi River Monday morning has been identified.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson identified the woman as 28-year-old Leah F. Manche.

“This is an absolute tragedy for the family to go through,” Gustafson said.

Manche was heading eastbound in the 4500 block of River Drive, Moline, when she lost control and went in the river, police said.

Speed was a factor in the accident, Gustafson said.

A Moline police officer on patrol spotted a red, four-door Pontiac Grand Prix submerged in the river shortly after 3 a.m. Monday.

Volunteer members of the Big River Rescue/Recovery Dive Team responded. With the assistance of the Moline Police and Fire Departments, along with Quad-City Towing, the vehicle was pulled from the river.

Manche, the only occupant of the car, was declared dead at the scene.

It's very diffcult to lose a young family member anytime of year. During the holidays has got to be very hard. I pray for the family and the soul of the young woman. What a scary way to go!
God Bless You
