The Bettendorf City Council will hold a special meeting Saturday to evaluate two candidates for the city attorney position.

The city is considering two candidates, Kristine Stone, currently the assistant city attorney in Ames, Iowa, and Rob Cusack of the Scott County Attorney’s Office. A third applicant, Jeff McDaniel, has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to City Administrator Decker Ploehn.

Both candidates are expected to request that Saturday’s meeting be held in closed session, which is permissible under Iowa law.

Ploehn said the council is expected to name a preferred candidate with whom the city can begin negotiations on a contract.

The current city attorney, Greg Jager, will retire in April
