A 23-year-old Bettendorf man was killed Tuesday when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a truck on Spruce Hills Drive in Davenport.
Davenport police said the motorcycle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, while westbound on Spruce Hills Drive shortly after 10:30 a.m.
The motorcycle began skidding west of the Interstate 74 overpass just inside the Davenport city limits. It slid on its side before tumbling side over side, a total of about 200 feet, finally crashing into the middle left side of the box truck.
The truck had just exited Interstate 74 eastbound on the ramp and had been stopped at the stop sign at Spruce Hills. The truck had entered the intersection to go east on Spruce Hills when it was struck by the motorcycle, police said.
The motorcycle driver was transported by Medic EMS to Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport, where he was pronounced dead because of severe head injuries.
Police said the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the truck, who was not identified, was not injured.
The identity of the victim is not being released until family can be notified.
Police said identification was hampered because the man had two identification cards on him, one an Illinois driver's license and the other an international driver's license from Mexico. The two IDs had different names on them.
The investigation is continuing.
