The Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to serve as park ambassadors to patrol city parks this summer. The ambassadors patrol Bettendorf’s 22 parks, watching for vandalism, providing information and directions for park users and access to first aid if needed and acting as “goodwill ambassadors” for the city.

Ambassadors, who wear hats and shirts for easy identification, patrol the parks in vehicles provided by the city and by walking through the parks. They have access to a police frequency radio and 911 so that if a serious situation is encountered, they have instant access to assistance.

Patrol shifts run 6-11 p.m. daily, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Each ambassador generally works one night a week and are placed in teams of two when possible. If requested, husband and wife teams can be set up or friends can be paired together.

Applications are available at Bettendorf City Hall, 1609 State St., or at the Herbert D. Goettsch Community Center, 2204 Grant St., or by calling 563-344-7170.
