A search committee has chosen three finalists for the Bettendorf city attorney job.

City Administrator Decker Ploehn said the committee will meet in closed session today, Monday and Tuesday to interview Rob Cusack, attorney in the Scott County Attorney’s Office; Kristine Stone, assistant city attorney in Ames, Iowa; and Jeff McDaniel, an attorney in private practice in Rock Island who also serves as city attorney in LeClaire.

Ploehn said the committee, made up of Mayor Bob Gallagher Jr.; Alderman Dean Mayne, 1st Ward; Alderman James Stewart, 5th Ward, and Alderman Lisa Brown, At Large, interviewed 21 applicants by phone before selecting the finalists.

Gallagher will make a recommendation to the council after the interviews are complete.

City Attorney Greg Jager, who has been with the city for more than 20 years, announced in the fall that he intended to retire this spring.

Ploehn said Jager has not set an official retirement date, but is expected to leave his job in April.
